The Amsterdam soprano Charlotte Margiono, born 1955 studied at the conservatory of Arnhem by Aafje Heynis. She became an international reputation with the role of the countess (Le Nozze di Figaro) at Bern, Hamburg, Aix-en-Provence, Amsterdam, Tokio, Bordeaux and Dresden. Also as Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito she shined in the festivals at Aix (1988) and Salzburg (1991). On her Mozart repertory are also the roles of First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni). Next to the Mozart roles, she works on the enlargement of her lyric repertory: Mimi (La Bohème), Marie (Die verkaufte Braut), Agathe (Der Freischütz) and Vespina (L'Infedelta Delusa).

She worked together with conductors as Claudio Abbado, Gerd Albrecht, Frans Brüggen, Andrew Davis, John Eliot Gardiner, Hartmut Haenchen, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Carlo Maria Giulini, Armin Jordan, Antonio Pappano, Alain Lombard, Kenneth Montgomery, Gary Bertini, Franz Welser-Möst, James Judd, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Edo de Waart.

On vocal-symphonic level is Charlotte Margiono regularly to hear with important orchestras as the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, the Berliner and Hamburger Philharmoniker, the Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, l'Orchestre de Bordeaux, Minnesota Symphony, Santa Cecilia di Roma, etc. Her concert repertory encloses works of Gluck, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms, Rossini, Mahler, Ravel and Villa-Lobos. She had lots of success with her interpretation of the Vier letzte Lieder from Richard Strauss.

Charlotte Margiono worked at various cd-recordings of among others Die Zauberflöte, Missa Solemnis, Ein Deutsches Requiem, La Finta Gardiniera, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Fidelio.
