Gerard Zalsman - (1871-1949)
Gerard Zalsman, born in Haarlem, received also his singing-study with the already mentioned pedagogue Julius Stockhausen. Later also with Aaltje Noordewier. His greatest successes he scored as lieder-singer and specially lieder of Strauss, Sommer and Wolf suited him well. He made tours through Australia and Asia and has lived even for quite a time in Shanghai. After the troubles - 'boxers revolt' - he went back to the Netherlands again and settled down in 'The Hague', where he occupied mainly with giving singing-lessons. In 1908 he still founded a quartet consisted of Johanna van de Linde, Hermine Scholten, Jac. van Kempen and himself.
