Cornélie van Zanten (1857-1947)
The in Dordrecht born contralto Cornélie van Zanten - this moment mainly known as singing-pedagogue - had a great opera-career. She made her debut in Turin in 'La Favorite (Donizetti). Further she went to Germany, where she joined the operas of Breslau, Kassel (with Mahler as conductor!) and Hamburg. Afterwards she went to America and joined there the 'National Opera Company' in New York. She also sang at the operas of St. Petersburg and Moscow. She wrote a.o. 'Bel Canto des Wortes', those days a standard-work about the art of singing
